The Start in 1993

Tradition and Culture…Earned by Experience.

In 1993 out of the Sandhills of Nebraska, Kevin Hulse, with his father Earl, and brother Troye, formed Mid-Plains Power, Inc. Over the next two decades, we grew a small construction company into one of the largest power line contractors in the Midwest. Successfully selling the company with 120 Lineman in 2010 and renamed Great Plains Power, Inc. in 2015.

We are proud of our reputation.

Our reputation is outstanding in the core markets of Rural Electric Associations; Municipals, Generation & Transmission agencies; and Investor Owned Utilities. Reputations are truly earned by experience and we are known best for being better.

As a contractor, we teach safety as second nature and it is ingrained in our tradition and culture. Our new Apprentices are taught safe competencies throughout our Merchant Job Training and Safety program. Our Journeymen teach skills using the philosophy of, “all carrot…no stick.” In 2018 we became a qualified contractor with ISNetworld - the nations leading third party qualifier measuring a vendor's culture of safety and production. Consequently, we are regarded as a company with an educated and sought-after workforce by our customers, and a consistently low “experience modification rate.”

From New Jersey to Texas, and Dennis to Irma, our tradition and culture have earned Great Plains Power, Inc. a reputation as a FEMA friendly contractor. Our POWER FULL reputation in ice storms was earned by restoring power with a STRONG MIDWEST WORK ETHIC.
